The article focuses on the model-driven development (MDD) methodologies and tool support in software engineering. It was stated that model-driven software development is considered as a logical evolution of classical programming-language design and compiler construction. It discusses five most common challenges in MDD including life-cycle issues, model comparison and merging, model transformations, model-level debugging, and models and text-based syntaxes. Furthermore, MDD supports the search for abstraction levels for problem domain and runtime platforms.
