IP address scanning is a fundamental task in cybersecurity research. Due to the vast IPv6 address space, brute-force scanning is completely infeasible. To address this challenge, we propose 6Decoder, an effective method for generating IPv6 targets. Our method utilizes a neural network based on the Transformer decoder, treats IPv6 addresses as textual sequences, and employs generative artificial intelligence to generate candidate IPv6 addresses. These candidates are then scanned using protocols such as the Internet Control Message Protocol version 6 (ICMPv6) to detect active target addresses. Experiments were conducted on seed sets of sizes 10 K, 100 K, and 1 M, generating 1 M to 10 M candidates with hit rates ranging from 56 % to 74 %, outperforming state-of-the-art algorithms by a factor of 1.1 to 292.
