We examine the effect of cybersecurity risk on firm greenwashing. Using data from 1,415 US publicly listed firms covering the period from 2002 to 2022, we document that cybersecurity risk increases corporate greenwashing. Our results remain consistent even after using alternative variables and accounting for endogeneity concerns. Additionally, we find that the impact of cybersecurity risk is more pronounced for firms with higher financial constraints, cost of debt, and profit volatility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
