Drohnen, die zur Beobachtung und Vermessung von Landflächen eingesetzt werden, müssen große Mengen an Bilddaten für die 3D-Kartierung und Analyse aufnehmen und verarbeiten. Die intelligenten binären Gehirne dieser Drohnen bestehen immer häufiger aus kreditkartengroßen Computer-on-Modules, die auf Standard-Carrierboards aufgebaut werden. Solche ultrakompakten, modularen Systeme lassen sich breit skalieren, sind kaum größer als eine 250-Gramm-Packung Butter, wiegen aber weniger als die Hälfte.
